FIAR (Five in a Row) Based Kindergarten Co-op Class

For the last year I have taught and scheduled lesson plans for a kindergarten co-op class. The co-op runs 26 weeks, which gave us the perfect opportunity to spend one day on each letter of the Alphabet.

Each lesson plan is designed for 4-7 year olds, and is planned to fit within 45-60 minutes of instruction time. If you are working with 45 minutes, I would cut and preprep a lot of the kid projects. If you have an hour or more - this is more ideal for the kiddos to be more hands-on. I always wanted more time. This is a type of curriculum that would lend itself beautifully to having three 45 minutes blocks (one to read the story and go over the geography or in-story lessons, one for handwriting and arts and crafts and one for science. Someday, I may write such a schedule. But for starters, if you only have 1 hour and 1 class, but you want to cover the basics, this is a great starter curriculum. You can do it at home if you like the "Five in a Row / Natural Learning from books concept, but don't have the time to do it every day. Or you can use it with a weekly Co-op, which is the reason I wrote out these lesson plans. All handouts are my own, and can be used freely. Lots of others materials have been added from wonderful websites, and are credited throughout.

Goal: 45-60 Minutes of Instruction, One day a week.
Level: 4.5-7 years old
Objective: Use classic children's literature to teach:

    • The Alphabet
    • Simple Geography
    • Simple Science
    • Handwriting
    • Educational Art and Crafts
*Note as of April 14, 2018 - I am just adding the lessons as I do them. I only recently started adding pictures, links, and printables to the most recent lessons. I will continue to update the older posts as time allows and hopefully to have have them finished by the end of summer.  If you're doing a co-op FIAR class, or trying to do a literature-based activity at home, come back often for updates. If a story is posted, I have all the materials ... it may just take me a little longer to get everything uploaded onto here. If you would like to see something faster, please leave a comment or send me a message @ and I'll try to get that book up earlier. Thanks for your patience on this work in progress!
